Photography 2 moodboard

CONCEPTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY

For this course assignment we were asked to take creative conceptual portrait photographs of a model of our choosing. Conceptual photography means to create photos that have a strong theme and tells a story through lights, colors, compositions, poses and facial expressions.

CONCEPT

I chose to photograph my partner, Petter, and wanted to create an environmental photography of him in his home office. I started brainstorming around words and qualities that I associate with him. The two strongest words that came to mind were ambition and risk taking. Through research, using Pinterest, ChatGPT and several Youtube videos, I started creating a vision in my mind of what I wanted the photos to look like to convey the two themes. Based on this I created a moodboard that inspired my two portraits (shown above). This resulted in photos with bright and strong colors combined with very strong and determined facial expressions that hopefully gives an impression of my chosen themes.

CLOSE-UP PORTRAIT

This portrait uses blue color to convey the theme ambition. This color can have a calm but focusing effect which works well with the theme. The models facial expression is determined but uplifting giving a feeling of strenght and hope. The blue color is quite overpowering but thereĀ“s still some highlights in the nose, cheekbone and ear which emphasizes some of his facial features and creates more depth.

ZOOMED-OUT PORTRAIT

For this portrait I used red to convey the theme risktaking. Red is a very energizing color and can evoke feelings of pasion and in this case emphasize the uncertainty when taking risks. The model has a determined facial expression alongside a relaxed and carefree body posture. He is posing on top of his self-built stationary computer giving a nod to being selfmade and ambitious. The model is bare feet which is supposed to emphasize that he is in his element as well as being comfortable.
